High Cotton = Low Prices

Last month I wrote about the price of cotton going up for various reasons including raw materials (the cotton itself) and labor in Asia being the big two. On Friday, 2/11 Reuters® posted an article stating: The cotton market, basis the spot month, traded over $1 per lb in September 2010, only the second time it had done so in the last 50 years. Now, it is seemingly poised to hurdle $2 and some in the market are even talking of $3 or $5 cotton.

Last week I received an offer from a major distribution house for brand name wearables offering a huge sale on Gildan G-2000 6.1oz 100% cotton short sleeve t-shirts. I swear, there's gotta be a lawyer involved in this somewhere! Any regular purchasers of imprinted t-shirts know that s/s tees are almost always available on sale somewhere. Whenever you order I have to check half a dozen vendors to find out who's discounting that shirt this week. Below is a grid showing current "List", "Sale" and "Huge Sale" pricing. Number of locations on each shirt receiving number of colors, crossing any seams, bleeding off the garment, wrapping up the shoulder or across the back and onto the sleeves all factors into the final price of an imprinted t-shirt.
